13 July 2025

<07-13-25> This is my first post! And, I can't believe how quickly time is moving . . .

I got a job at a pizza place, and I smell like flour most of the time. Luckily, I'm quitting and working at a new bar called 'Little Gem'. It's purple and moody and my sweet friend Brie set me up to bar-back and serve.

I've been listening to lots and lots of music this month, and most of it is by friends! Lizzo put together an extra sweet mini fest called 'Farewell Transmission' for Gumhead's last set. Everyone at Roadhouse is moving out, so no more shows there for now-I'll miss it lots.
The room was so hot (North Carolina July), and I was still stubborn enough to wear jeans. Lots of dancing and warm beer.

<07-21-25> I've been thinking a lot about superstition, dreams, and lucky charms. Lots of things have changed and people are moving away, so I've been finding a lot of comfort in the consistency of objects. Writing letters and collecting talismans feels easier than talking, especially when a good-bye is around the corner. I keep my deer antler and wrestling gloves and metal cuff on me always.
Jasmine and I went and saw 'La Notte' at the Chelsea. I was real sleepy by the start, but I think that ending scene where Lidia pulls out a letter as a sort of evidence will stay with me for a while.

<07-24-25> Today, I bought an oak frame and a couple of dark red candles. In Raleigh, I met a woman crying over five dead kittens. I stopped my car to ask her if she was okay, and she said the babies passed from how hot the pavement was.
Patrick, Lucas, and I saw Superman later, which cheered me up. They made cherry tiramisu, and I told them about what I saw.

<07-26-25> Emma and I got drinks after work . . . is drinking IPAs in 90 degree heat a sign of getting older? I am no longer letting myself buy cigarettes . . .

<07-27-25> Lilian and I started collaging the new 'Duped' issue! I am excited for another zine xo.

<07-30-25> Bye, bye July! Here is my video for this month that is missing lots of walks, movies, and sweaty t-shirts.

My Little Gems:

One Carrboro band is called 'The Matildas'-it's Esmé on vocals and banjo and Victor on bass and Lizzo on drums. They have some stuff up on Bandcamp now, and I've been spinning it in my living room lots. My favorites are the first two, Race On! and Missouri
I've been listening to a lot of Mary Lou Williams and Karate, something about 'Libra' and 'Dating Is Stupid' playing right after the other . . .

I did a radio show and found some sweet new songs. This Folk and Pop Sounds of Sumatra album is really great and sunny. 'Saigon' by William S. Fischer and 'Arrival in Mas' off of the Pitamaha album were also very magic.

Audrey made me this really great 'I Heart Wood' print at Penland that I have hanging by my door. They made one of a bird that I love very much too.

I emailed the Hickory Musuem of Art about the Annie Hooper angels they have . . . come to find out the musuem is closing! A very kind clerk sent me back photos of the pair they have, and I've been cherishing the scans.

Juliette Collet comic that's been on my mind.
